Let's Create
No time like the present: put down the phone, turn off the TV, start making stuff. We want to help.
Actual Realization
The moment always comes when, having collected one's ideas, certain images, an intuition of a certain kind of development- whether psychological or material- one must pass on to the actual realization. - Michelangelo Antonioni
Do you have ideas for stories, songs, and films? Like so many, you probably have them stored up in your memory or imagination. But no one will ever read, hear, or see them if they stay in your mind.
Enter Michelangelo. Read his words again. He says there’s no time like the present to make something.
Carissa and I worked for two decades in various industries—Hollywood, big business, non-profit—and it slowly dawned on us that no one was going to make our stuff for us.
We had collected the ideas, the images, an intuition for what we wanted to create, but we had to do it ourself.
We learned a very hard truth: No one wants to make your ideas until you’ve made something and it is successful.
This led us to the liberating idea behind this Substack and all that we do at Huck&Dorothy: permission to create.
So, let’s begin.
Helping you
We are writers, directors, producers, an illustrator, and actor and singer. We’ve done a lot in the last twenty plus years—and we are determined to help others get going on their creative life. We want to work with artists in a wide range of creative fields, encouraging and helping them discover their voice, and gather with other artists.
We are working towards designing a better media production model employing the best practices from creative industries, and providing a better avenue for artists and audiences to experience and enjoy stories.
Join in
Creating is not easy, especially when you try to do it alone.
If no one else around you wants to create music, art, film, poetry—we are here to help. This Substack, our classes, and our email are open to you for encouragement, inspiration, ideas and more.
We will be posting on a weekly basis.
We be will writing about literature, movies, TV, advice on acting, and the writing process.
Free
For a limited time, the articles are free. If you get something out of it, please, by all means, chip in a few dollars.
Otherwise, glean from us what you need, pass it along to others, and know that we care about you and what you do.
Let’s create
If anyone knew how to make stuff, it was Michelangelo. Let’s look at what he said again:
The moment always comes when, having collected one's ideas, certain images, an intuition of a certain kind of development- whether psychological or material- one must pass on to the actual realization. - Michelangelo Antonioni
This is the moment you have been waiting for, this is the moment of “actual realization,” where you take your ideas and intuition, and make something that is all yours, for all to see.
Let’s create.
